The new initiatives, which include advanced surveillance systems and welfare facilities, are aimed at strengthening the district’s “law and order” capabilities while addressing the unique challenges of an industrializing region.
Here is the investigative breakdown of the projects unveiled and their strategic importance.
The Projects: Tech Meets Tradition
The inauguration ceremony saw the launch of five key initiatives designed to modernize policing in the rural belt surrounding Ahmedabad.
1. Khakhi Bhavan: A dedicated infrastructure project to serve as a central hub for police operations and community interaction.
2. ADR-Shield (Human Resource Management): A digital portal designed to track the massive influx of migrant workers in the region’s industrial zones.
The Goal: To identify criminals hiding under the guise of employment.
The Mechanism: Data of workers from across the country will be centralized, allowing for rapid background checks and verification.
3. Abhay Yatri Project: A new vehicle registration system aimed at enhancing road safety and tracking movement on key rural arteries.
4. Blue Circuit Project: An eco-friendly initiative focused on rainwater harvesting within police compounds, aligning law enforcement infrastructure with sustainability goals.
5. Aslali SDPO Office: The formal opening of the new office for the Sub-Divisional Police Officer in Aslali, a critical logistical hub on the outskirts of the city.
Foundation Stone: Sanghavi also laid the foundation stone for the Viramgam Police Line, promising better housing facilities for personnel stationed in that subdivision.
The Strategic Vision: “Industry Brings Challenges”
Speaking at the event, Sanghavi highlighted the dual-edged sword of rapid industrialization. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision has brought large-scale investment and employment to Ahmedabad Rural, it has also necessitated a smarter policing approach.
“Criminals living here under the guise of employment can be identified [via ADR-Shield]… Projects like Abhay Yatri will increase the trust of the people in the police,” Sanghavi stated.
Recruitment Support: In a move to support local youth, the Deputy CM announced that all police grounds would be thrown open to aspirants preparing for police and SRP recruitment. The government will also arrange for coaches and physiotherapists to assist candidates in their physical training.
The Cyber Crime Angle
Sanghavi used the platform to address the growing menace of digital fraud. He cited a recent success where Gujarat Police recovered Rs 33 crore from cybercriminals in a single day.
Helpline Surge: In December alone, there were five days where the ‘1930’ cybercrime helpline received over 3,000 calls per day.
Crackdown: Since December 8, the state police have arrested 423 accused and filed 508 cases related to “mule” bank accounts used for laundering stolen money.
The event concluded with the ‘Tera Tujko Arpan’ program, where the Deputy CM handed over recovered stolen money back to its rightful owners, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to victim-centric policing.
