Surat Double Homicide: Minor Among Three Apprehended in Godadara Brutality

SURAT, India — The investigation into the gruesome double murder that shook the Godadara locality earlier this month has taken a disturbing turn with the apprehension of a juvenile suspect.

In a significant breakthrough, Godadara police have arrested three additional individuals connected to the December 1 slayings of Soeb Shaikh and Nazim Sadik Raj, also known as Bhanja. The arrests, which include a 16-year-old minor, bring the total number of suspects in custody to five, unraveling a violent plot allegedly fueled by a financial dispute.

Here is the investigative status report on the manhunt that spanned from Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh.

The Breakthrough: The Trail to Uttar Pradesh

The case, which had seen two earlier arrests, gained momentum this week following actionable intelligence regarding one of the key suspects.

Police received a tip-off that Shubham Navik, alias Sunny Kaliya, 22, had fled the state and was hiding in Jagdishpur, Uttar Pradesh. A special team was dispatched to the location, where they successfully apprehended Kaliya at his uncle’s residence.

The Domino Effect: Kaliya’s interrogation proved pivotal. According to Police Inspector H.S. Acharya, Kaliya revealed the involvement and whereabouts of two accomplices:

  • Mangal Yadav, alias Vicky, a delivery worker.

  • A 16-year-old minor, whose identity is protected due to his age.

Following these leads, police promptly detained both Yadav and the juvenile in Surat. “Kaliya works as a labourer, while Vicky is a delivery worker,” Inspector Acharya confirmed. These arrests follow the earlier capture of Jalam, alias Jagdish, and Asif Shaikh.

The Crime: A Brutal Settle-Up

The incident dates back to December 1, when a confrontation over money turned lethal.

The Timeline:

  • The Attack: The prime accused, identified as Shiva Takla, along with his aides, allegedly launched a vicious attack on three men: Soeb Shaikh, Nazim Sadik Raj (Bhanja), and Irshad Saiyed.

  • The Motive: Preliminary investigations indicate the violence stemmed from an unresolved financial dispute between the parties.

  • The Aftermath: Soeb Shaikh and Bhanja succumbed to the grievous injuries inflicted during the assault. The third victim, Irshad Saiyed, survived but remains in serious condition.

In a grim detail highlighting the calculated nature of the crime, the prime accused, Takla, reportedly transported and dumped Bhanja’s body in the Nandurbar district of neighboring Maharashtra in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The Fugitives: The Hunt for ‘Shiva Takla’

While five suspects are now behind bars, the mastermind remains at large.

Police have formed multiple special teams to track down Shiva Takla and another associate named Mehul. Takla’s profile is of particular concern to law enforcement; he had reportedly just been released from jail after being detained under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA).

Investigative Focus:

  • Recidivism: Takla’s immediate return to violent crime upon release raises serious questions about the monitoring of habitual offenders.

  • Network: The involvement of a diverse group of accomplices—from laborers to delivery workers and minors—suggests Takla holds significant sway over a local criminal network.

The Verdict: Justice in Motion

The inclusion of a minor in such a violent crime adds a complex layer to the legal proceedings. While the adults will face murder charges under the Indian Penal Code, the juvenile’s case will be handled by the Juvenile Justice Board.

As the manhunt for Takla intensifies, the Godadara police are under pressure to close the loop on a case that has highlighted the lethal consequences of unchecked financial feuds in the city’s underbelly.
