Dispensary Helper Arrested for Alleged Rape of 19-Year-Old Colleague in Surat

Surat, Feb. 13, 2026: A 21-year-old dispensary helper has been arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman who worked with him at a private doctor’s clinic under the Lalgate police station jurisdiction.

The accused, identified as Nevil Modi, was taken into custody by Lalgate police after the survivor filed a formal complaint. Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations, including charges of sexual assault, criminal intimidation, and blackmail.

Survivor Joined Clinic for Nursing Career Preparation

According to police sources, the 19-year-old had completed Class 12 in March and aspired to pursue a nursing career. Through family contacts, she approached a local doctor and was offered office-related work at the clinic with a monthly salary of ₹15,000.

Modi, who was employed as a helper at the clinic, was reportedly assigned to train her in handling administrative responsibilities.

However, soon after she began working there, the accused allegedly started behaving inappropriately.

Allegations of Harassment and Threats

The complaint states that Modi allegedly molested the survivor multiple times and pressured her emotionally. He reportedly expressed romantic interest and threatened to starve himself if she refused to communicate with him.

Police said the accused once took the survivor out on an outing and later brought her back to the clinic, where he allegedly molested her and took inappropriate photographs without her consent.

Over a period of nearly ten days during March and April, the accused allegedly shut the clinic during working hours and continued to harass and molest her. He is accused of threatening to circulate the indecent photographs if she revealed the incidents to anyone.

Alleged Assault on April 4

According to the FIR, the accused allegedly raped the survivor on April 4 inside the clinic premises when no one else was present.

Distressed by the incident, the survivor reportedly informed the doctor about the assault. The doctor then informed her parents.

Attempted Compromise Due to Social Pressure

Police sources said that, fearing social stigma and reputational damage, a compromise was reached between the survivor and the accused on April 24. Under this informal understanding, Modi allegedly agreed not to harass her further, and she refrained from filing a complaint at that time.

However, the harassment and psychological trauma reportedly continued to affect the survivor.

After gathering courage and family support, she eventually approached the police and registered a complaint on Wednesday.

Police Action and Investigation

Lalgate police promptly arrested Nevil Modi and began investigating the matter. Officials are examining electronic evidence, including the alleged photographs, and recording statements from witnesses.

Authorities have stated that strict legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Police have urged individuals facing similar harassment or threats not to remain silent and to seek legal assistance without fear.

Support for Survivors

Officials also emphasized that survivors of sexual assault can access counseling and legal aid services. Laws provide strict punishment for sexual offences, including digital exploitation and criminal intimidation.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected as police complete their inquiry.
